A lot of the Mormonism stuff you hear about is about extremists, though, especially the stuff about polygamy and abuse. You can make a lot of religions look awful by focussing on extremists. There's no such thing as a moderate member of the CoS, though. People either take a couple of classes and get out (in which case they're no longer members) or they stay in and are forced to cut off their non-Scientologist friends and loved ones over time.
I'm glad somebody understands.
The groups of abusers or polygamist sects in question refer to the "Fundamental Latter Day Saints" which is a group that split from the church and renounced Mormonism in general. Although, like any institution, not every member and leader of the actual LDS church is pure of intention. That's human nature.
I have never been abused within the church nor have they tried to force me to leave my non-Mormon friends and loved ones. The Mormon church is different from other Christian churches because they adhere to a more conservative version of the established Church as was described in the Bible not to mention their belief that the word of God has yet to be fully revealed and that continued revelation is possible and necessary, however, it's not nearly as cultish as people love saying it is.

:/ How accurate is that? Because if it is accurate, there are a lot of strange things Mormons believe. Do you think black people are those who could not decide between Jesus and Lucifer?
My friend went to a Mormon church in the US and wasn't received very well because he is half black...
What religion do you follow?
