The apostle Peter was the first Pope of the Catholic Church. He was given the special authority by Jesus to lead his (Jesus) Church. All popes after Peter are considered to be his successors.
The Eastern Orthodox church existed first and it was Rome who broke away believing they were superior, which differed from the tradition of first amongst equals. The church in Jerusalem was first, and that is Eastern Orthodox, not Roman Catholic.
What religion are you?

It's called Apostolic Succession.

That's the thing about religion, you can believe whatever you want.
:( I'm sorry.
I take it you're all better now?

Not a regular church attendee, I mostly only go for weddings and funerals.
8 years of parochial school really wiped me out.

He was given the title after defeating the reigning champion in the heavy-weight division.
