  • Glacier National Park! Really, look up the national parks and pick your favorite...I most recommend, as I've noted, Glacier...but also Big Bend, if you like deserts.

Also, if serious nature isn't what you really want out of your trip, hit up the East Coast, Washington DC has a lot of great stuff, and though the city ain't cheap, there are a lot of free things to see if you research it well, and most people around that area are used to people speaking other languages. Also, great way to get some learning (brainwashing...I kid...) on the history.
I highly recommend reading something on it yourself on the plane to get the most out of a more history or cultural experience oriented trip.

I do that kind of research, almost pre-trip contemplation, when I visit other countries, and it has never failed to serve me well.

Also! For a city trip, San Francisco, hands down.

If you have any friends in America, visit them. If you're by the boarders, Mexico and Canada are also worth visiting, same thing for Cuba, actually, which I've not-so-legally been to (go via Canada).
