What one possession could you not do without?

I'm the person who posted a while back about downsizing to semi-retire early in my motorhome and travel. I'm planning for that and it has forced me to make some tough choices. I have a houseful of stuff and memories and much of it has to go. The motorhome has very limited storage/floorspace and has built-in furniture, so minimal room to bring along large items. I'll get a storage unit, but don't plan to keep much in it. It made me think of an interesting question.

The question is, what large-ish single item (like bigger than a shoe box) could you never part with if you had to get rid of most of your stuff??

I have at least one big thing I couldn't do without (comment) 13

A lot of my stuff has sentimental value of just being in my life since I was born. If I ever downsized, the only thing I would have to have is a piano... cant go without one of those

Out of the stuff I own - my cars and my computer.

My cars, cause I'm a car nut and I love cars. I love driving. I could never imagine getting rid of my C-class, or my E-class. My C-class was my first dream car and my E-class was another dream car of mine. I could write a whole book on this, but I'm gonna stop here XD

My computer, cause pretty much all of my pictures are there. Vacations with my parents, trips with friends, trips and vacations with girlfriend, my graduation, lots of stuff and my book collection.

As a kid, I had a wild imagination, reading books was like a movie, but in your head, you were the director and producer and imagining the stuff that happened in the book was awesome. Especially the sci-fi stuff...

A cordless drill, even if you do not have one. Bye one.

    • You could get by with a set of screwdivers. Don't like elbow grease? 😉

True, but it is firstly a drill, and a grinder, polisher and screwdriver. I use elbow grease only when needed.

My pets are family, beyond that.
    Stuff is just stuff.
    You're doing a healthy thing.
To honestly downsize or just clear out stuff once in a while.
It's good to remember what matters in life.

I was gonna say my cell phone but it's smaller than a shoebox...lol. So I will have to say...my laptop.

My laptop and hard drives would be my main ones since they have all my digital stuff on them. But yeah, I have a lot of stuff I've collected over the years. I still have a load of little toys from when I was little, all stored together in a box. I have a video game collection with about 8 different consoles. I have a load of old books that I can't bear to part with. And just a load of other stuff too. I'm running out of space for it all.

You are arguing for others to redistribute their wealth in another post and now we find out you are hoarding all this stuff.

How do you align these two elements of yourself?

Most of it is old stuff that isn't worth anything that my mum wanted me to throw away anyway, but I kept it because of sentimental reasons. Plus if people don't collect old books and games, then they'll all just be thrown away and then they'll be lost forever. In fact I've bought a couple of consoles brand new and never opened them, with the intention to give them to museums when I get a lot older.
