Well considering I don't believe the media about what happened 10 years ago, I think what happened in Japan is more tragic.
The US media actually seemed to stop telling us what happened over there after the big chaos that intentionally ensued after the tsunami hit.
I don't trust the media to report honestly on anything. Their reporting of science, health and education in this country is deceitful and dangerous. Especially science. They need holding to account.
I think most countries media's have some sort of target. In the US they try to use fear in the media to keep us under control. I haven't been paying attention in years though so I'm not sure about how it is now. I find my own facts about stuff that goes on. I tend to just live away from society these days. It's a lot more stress free. I wish other people would stop listening to that garbage.
You sound like me. It's been years since I read a newspaper. That sounds like ignorance but I think it's exactly the opposite. I'm not stupid and I do know what's going on in the world. I just don't trust someone else's filter.
I agree. I'd rather not be fed something that will make me afraid. Take the Swine Flu for example, everyone was afraid because of the media. I ignored the whole thing because I knew freaking out wouldn't solve anything. If I get sick, I'll get sick. I was in my senior year of high school, I wasn't going to stop going and risk failing all because of what the media was saying about it.
What month were you born?

It's the un-anniversary of the Japan tsunami today. Strange how sad days get sad un-anniversaries (given what else happened on today's date).
