What makes you happy or sad?

I regularly experience extremes of happiness or sadness. Sometimes something small can make the difference. What is it that has an impact on your feelings?

    Films, books, women, alcohol, life...

All five of those things make me both happy and sad at times.

  • Hanging with my friends makes me happy. My friends are like family, I tell them everything and they accept me for who I am. Unlike my parents who think I have to be Mr. Popular. Kind of annoying.

  • All of the above.
    Including:
    Books
    Movies
Everyone around me (including people I like)

To keep my sanity I daydream about my future. All the time...

All these things make me extremely happy and sad.

I have many methods to pull me out of a funk. Some work better than others depending on the root of the problem. It can be my husband, a friend, a kind stranger, my cats, sunlight, deep breathing, music, crystals, or food.

My life situation makes me very sad at times.

Things that make me happy are thoughts of a better future, music and doing fun things with my partner.

I had many years of anxiety and depression. I learned not to care about things that were beyond my control, this helped me a lot. Just say "fuck you" and pay no attention to any anxiety and it goes away eventually. Also do whatever interests you and lose yourself in it, whether that's a book, movies, video games, art, music or many things. That is my personal experience at least. =)

      • Well thank you but I've had this for about 6 years now and it's more social anxiety than anything. Problem is, when I start thinking about things that I could have done or want to do but are too scared to do, I get depressed, then anxious about being depressed.

If I do say "fuck you" to everything, I might end up worse off because of it because I'm impulsive and tend to do the first thing that pops into my mind but thank you for your kind words. :)

      • I think anxiety is probably the root of much sadness and often its not as bad as we think, but I find emotions spiral out of control at times.

I wish I had the strength that you have developed.

Haha, well I'm only a youngin' (you'll have to guess my age), but to me it is also just about becoming lazy/uncaring, I simply make no effort to deal with any anxious thoughts, then they go away. Anxiety and depression are very similar and both feed on your imagination, creative intelligence and attention, if you let them.

I do totally believe that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger now, though.
