  • My native language is Dutch. The other languages I speak are English, German and French, and I can read and understand Afrikaans (since it is very similar to dutch). I also speak some spanish.

    • I noticed that about Afrikaans, for me the sounds were hard to put together reading and pronouncing the sounds. All I got was "ho han det?" and it's such a different spelling. Also "donkey"! Hehe

The Dutch in general seem to speak many languages...

      • Yeah, in school we learn a lot of languages. German and French are pretty much obligated for the first three (depends per level and school) years of middle/high school. and we start to learn english in elemantary school and it is obligated all thoughout middle/highschool.

        • Over here in Brazil aside from Portuguese, naturally, only English is a mandatory language. I like that about your culture, makes your people more worldly! :)
