I've known a lot of people to get addicted to reptiles, I don't know what it is but once someone gets a reptile they have this urge to get more and more. Most people treat reptiles like display pieces rather than anything else. They have reptilian brains and a lot of science would say they don't get much enjoyment out of interaction.
A cat would be the easiest, they're very atmospheric and the right ones can be very entertaining and loving, I think everyone should have a cat or two.
A dog, well it's a dog, they've been bonded with humans for many many years and provide almost anything you may need, exercise, companionship, protection, and loyalty. But you need space, simply walking a dog does not suffice. They want to run.
Chickens I don't have a lot of experience with, but the ones I knew were very loving and personable. But they're messy, and usually stink and are loud. Still, make wonderful entertainment.
Look around, see what's available, you may think you want a cat but bond better with a certain dog, who knows. Explore your options and look for more of personality click rather than a specie.
