OP I didn't do a very good job answering your poll...
My first memories of gaming are on a desktop computer. I remember playing this game called Gubble. I also remember playing this fish game and a few others. My older sister was really big into the Sims. I liked that one alright too.
My next earliest memory is the Super Nintendo. It was at one of the main court battles between my mom and dad when they got a divorce way back. They told us we couldn't be in the courtroom during the proceedings because we were too young. So they took us into a room where there was a T.V. I was instantly hooked as soon as I stomped my first Goomba. I think I got to the cape level before it was time to go. I later talked my dad into getting the system and that particular game.
Next would be my childhood best friend's pinball machine that his dad acquired somehow. It was rigged so that you could trick it into thinking you fed it a quarter. MAN was that a fun machine! :)
My friend also had a Nintendo 64 that we played endless hours of games like Donkey Kong, Starfox, 007, Mario Cart, Mario World, Crash Bandicoot, Zelda, etc.
My first real system that I owned was probably a Gameboy Color. My brother had the original Gameboy before then, but I never got to play it much. I played a lot of Pokemon on that beloved GBC of mine. My best buddy had Pokemon Yellow, and I had Pokemon blue I think. I later acquired Red and Green as well.
Somewhere along the line I finally was allowed to have a television in my room. I may have been around 12 or 13. That's when I got a PS2 and a Nintendo 64 eventually.
I got the PS3 pretty much as soon as it came out. I got a lot of hours out of that machine, and a lot of fun times, but looking back on it now, it was probably a bad investment...
I now own a PS3 slim. If it craps out on me I'm not getting another one. I'll be done with consoles and go back to PC gaming.
It has been a dream of mine for several years now to get a decent PC and really get into some old school games by way of Emulation.
So, in conclusion, I am (according to your poll options) a true gamer. In spirit? A demigod, no doubt :P
Your first console doesn't really say what kind of a gamer you are. Someone newer to gaming can be just as passionate about it as someone who has been gaming for 20 years. Is it really far to say jut because someone is younger and was born later in gaming history that they are any less of a gamer then someone who has been around since the beginning purely by luck?
As for me, I've been playing since the N64 but I know I'm a bigger gamer then others I know who started off with the NES.
I'm a Demigod, sweet!
1st gen pong
Atari 2600 (remember break out :)
Commodore 64
Counterfeit Nintendo with 100 games built in, from Singapore
Sega master system
Sega mega drive
BF had a super Nintendo for Street Fighter II
Nintendo 64
Sega Dreamcast (it actually caught fire)
Playstaion 1,2,3 waiting for 4 to come out
Nintendo WiiU biggest mistake of my life it's a worthless piece of shit and Nintendo should refund everyone for it, FUCK YOU Nintendo.
I think I started with an SNES. I remember playing Lemmings on that with my brothers. I also remember that we had a Yoshi's Cookies game, but, sadly, it was broken and we couldn't make it past the title screen.
Another childhood game console that I had was the Sega Saturn. I would watch my brother play Nights and we would duke it out in Robo Pit.
Although I don't remember if I had the Genesis, I remember playing some of it's games (like Sonic, Golden Axe, and Flicky) on the computer.
Then again, we only had these consoles for a few years and I was maybe 6 or so at the time, so I don't know if any of this counts.
In chronological order, I had:
Atari 2600
Sega Megadrive 2 (called Sega Genesis 2 in the US)
Playstation
Playstation 2 and Xbox
Nintendo DS
Xbox 360
So that makes me a legendary gamer by your standards mwahaha :) We also used to play games on the old PC around the same time as we had an Atari 2600 - Felix (not the cat!), Jill of the Jungle, Titus The Fox and Backgammon.
Ah, my first console was one of these lovely things http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Nintendo_Gameboy.jpg which was, according to ever reliable Wikipedia, a fourth generation thing. My next was a PS1, so I'm only just fitting in the fourth gen category :P
Thank God you triggered my sarcasm detector though, or you'd be in for a harsh talking to :P
