The idea of being affected by either dementia or total locked-in syndrome is probably the scariest thing for me. I've described in more detail on IIN why I find those syndromes so frightening. Really it's the avolition aspect of it, the total and complete loss of control of either your mind or your body, both of which make it impossible to communicate. I'm not sure which one I find most horrible, having your body intact but losing your mind or slowly losing your mind as your body functions normally. Urgh, both seem so horrible. I don't have a history of either in my family, and I can only hope I'm never affected by it.
