What is you idea to end violence caused by someone using a gun

Do me your worst! Spill it out! I want to know what you think is the best way to reduce the rate of death from gun violence in the US. Adding more laws is not going to stop someone from illegally acquiring a gun, and simply adding more guns is implying that we can only stop violence with violence.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Well, you could start with gun permits and gun education.

People are stupid, panicky animals and many of them don't really understand the metal things guns shoot can kill...
And should only be used in a live, or die situation.
They are not toys, they are not to be used for family squabbles, or to punish cheating boyfriends, or any of that garbage. Unless you're ready to kill, you don't touch the trigger. Better yet, don't even pick up the gun in the first place. Emotions and weapons are a very bad mix...

In Europe you can't just walk in a store and buy a gun.

You need to sign an application, study the literature and laws, get a physical and psychological evaluation, provide a document from the police showing you have a clean record.

Then it's target practice and buying a safe. Storing weapons outside a lockable safe is illegal in Europe. After you've done all that, you can buy a gun.

And every 4 years you need to redo the psychological evaluation and provide the clean record thing to make sure you haven't snapped, or gone gangsta...
I own guns and sometimes all of this is not worth the trouble. I have 2 hunting rifles I've probably used 2 times for the last 5 years and a pistol that I carry in Bulgaria for extra protection from gypsies.

I'd never pull out my gun for anything other than protection in a worst case scenario.

Theres more guns in the USA than people. Theres no way you can ban them. I carry a gun on me everywhere I go. Fact is you're safer with a gun.

    • So I understand, you feel safer knowing you could harm someone who is trying to harm you?

Of course, think about it, if someone breaks into your house are you safer with a gun or without?

        • Neither, to be honest. I’d be one of those ditsy girls you see in the movies shakily holding a gun and misfiring.

So get some training and go practice at a range.

People talk about how sometimes the owner of the gun (or whatever weapon) is the one who ends up hurt. That may be true but in certain situations, you have to try SOMEthing to save your ass.

The majority of gun violence is caused in gang vs gang violence, if we cracked down on gangs and institute broken window policies in cities we can start scrubbing the streets of rough firearms that no one owns or they were stolen.

Take a look at other nation’s gun laws and take a look at how many mass shootings they have a year, see the correlation?

    • I agree but try telling that to someone who does not see self defense with a gun as violence.

Deadly force is sometimes required in self defense with a gun or otherwise. That is a reality.

        • Fair... I live in a sketchy part of chicago where I more often hear about gang on gang violence where victims are caught in cross fire, than home invasion or hold up’s/muggings of some sort.

If guns were outlawed do you really believe those gangs would turn in their guns? Guns that they probably already ILLEGALLY own?

You are comparing countries that have the populations equal to one of our states. We have more births, more deaths, more car accidents, more marriages, more divorces, more movie theaters, etc... just because we have more people.

In the 200+ years in America's existence, how many of those other countries have been over-run, invaded, or had their borders, or names changed by someone else?

    Im 1/2 German, so.
    You ask an easy question.
    1 for 10.
As a person with a gun.
    For each person you shoot.
10 members of your family will be shot.
This solves the problem in 2 ways.
As the shooter, theres usually a family member you care about.
As the relative, you value your own life enough to report your de de de
    relative.

        Sorry about that.
        it hit close to home,
        last year.
I tried to get i heart tickets but didnt make it.
then I hear 50 are killed at a music festival in vegas.
        it wasnt i heart.
        this time.
just a country show next door.
        but gun or not.
I would have been a sittin duck 2 stories below a guy with a modified spray and pray AR.
NO GUN MADE WOULD HAVE MADE ME SAFE!

By any means possible, permanently. If he can't use a gun, he will find something else.

    • I think the brits with their knives are onto something. They require close range combad but allow for higher accuracy. Guns offer less accuracy at the fault of the user probably not training properly and often involve bystanders dying

Good for you. Others prefer defending themselves with a gun. It's called freedom. You get to choose.
