I know what you're talking about, yes. There's actually a solar-powered porta potty called the Tele-Toilette that's designed in their likeness, presumably as a cheeky reference to that phenomenon. It's too bad there weren't heaps of those around back then instead but I suspect the people in question would have still managed to make a mess of them.
