There are people who get off on pissing in public places. I think it's infantile behaviour, and what's going on in their heads is the thrill of being deliberately naughty. They probably have unresolved Mommy-issues going all the way back to the time when they were being toilet-trained.
Or it could be down to their lizard-brain impulses. In the case of men, it's about marking territory with their scent. In the case of women, it's about leaving scent markers so males know there's a fertile female around.
But it's possible that the girl in the stairwell just really had to go, and she hadn't been able to find a more socially acceptable place where she could empty her bladder without lots of people seeing her.
In any case, it's only urine. It's not like she dumped some toxic or radioactive waste in your stairwell or left a bomb there.
I forgot the name of it but the tube station near my old job had a sign by a random black-stained wall reading “This is not a toilet, stop urinating here!”
There are certainly things I don’t miss about working in the city.
