What is the difference between first and third world?

And more importantly, where or what is the second world?

Anyways, in the developed world, you might hear someone say, "Yeah so after the storm, I was without the Internet for a couple days. Oh well, first world problems".

So over in some impoverished country, would they say, "If Malaria had not killed him, then starvation surely would have. Oh well, third world problems".

First world countries afford a majority of their citizens access to wealth beyond the basic needs for human survival. First world citizens can work where they want, eat what they want, live where they want, and essentially do what they want.

Second world (communist) countries have no luxuries. Governtment housing, government work, government food.

Third world means you are struggling to survive. Food, clean water, clothing, shelter are all a difficult to come by.

I am from third world country (india). Here there is no disability, no benefits, if you run out of money you are fucked. The government will not help you. The police are corrupt, the public servants are corrupt, the politicians are corrupt yada yada. Absolutely extreme levels of poverty. Most of us (myself included) live below the poverty line.

https://lmgtfy.com (Let me google that for you) will save you time. Instead of 5 minutes on 3 links you can invest just 1 AND share a tutorial for the enlightenment of OPs and raise awareness to the existence of Google. Also bing, which I myself am completely unaware of. :P

It's an elitist/prejudiced term, which is why the media is trying to phase it out.

"The term "First World" refers to so called developed, capitalist, industrial countries, roughly, a bloc of countries aligned with the United States after World War II, with more or less common political and economic interests: North America, Western Europe, Japan and Australia.

"Third World" are all the other countries, today often used to roughly describe the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The term Third World includes as well capitalist (e.g., Venezuela) and communist (e.g., North Korea) countries, as very rich (e.g., Saudi Arabia) and very poor (e.g., Mali) countries."
