I just bought my first house, and the only appliances it doesn't come with are a washer and dryer. I would like to buy a set that is quality built and made to last (not a fan of how the quality of a lot of newer appliances I've seen has gone downhill).
Does anyone have any good experience with a particular brand to be durable and long lasting?
Also, which brands should I avoid?

I don't think you can rely on any brand to always be trouble-free. Modern appliances are complicated, and there are lots of little things that can go wrong in the factory and not be spotted by quality checks.
But for what it's worth, I've had good experiences with Bosch and LG.
You should be looking for some old Maytag's used (before they were acquired by Whirlpool who degraded their quality in subsequent models to reduce cost).
Nothing on the market today for normal appliances will be built like the old Maytags.
You can still get parts for everything. Normal life is 20-30 years although you may need to replace some parts to bring it back into good condition (that's and expected life of 20-30 years after you replace any needed parts).
I rebuilt a 25 year old Maytag dishwasher a few years ago (door seal, hoses, spray arms) - and it runs and cleans better than any of the newer models.
I've got Samsung washer and dryer. No problems in three years. I've heard the typical appliance is only built to work for five to seven years though.
