What is better? catholicism or protestantism?

Yeah I know there are different versions of protestantism, but generally speaking, would you say you prefer catholicism or protestantism?

I dont know a whole lot about protestants but I think they came over when the pilgrims where in america...? but you should watch the Keepers on Netflix....a docu-seriries about how disgusting the catholics can be, and still are, and the arch diocese protects them. I know it happens everywhere no matter what religion you are, but this really stuck with me. Barf...

The Catholic Church is superior, for it is the Church set in place by Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Church was not established by Jesus Christ. There were several others that could claim closer kinship; which the Catholic Church essentially either directly slaughtered or had Catholic supported armies slaughter for them.

You should study your history of the early Christian Churches.

A very clear example is that the original Churches that followed the teachings of Jesus held that the Sabbath was their day of rest and worship.

    It's all subjective.
If you want to be a Catholic, be a Catholic.
If you want to be a Protestant, be a Protestant.
    It's a personal decision.

For the last 2½ years, there's been an ongoing independent investigation in France into child abuse by Catholic clergy and lay-people (such as teachers in Catholic schools) since 1950. The final report was released this week.

It's certain that there were at least 3,000 priests who abused children during that period, and very likely many more. The worst that happened to virtually all those priests was that they were - in the classic Catholic way of handling such problems - moved to another parish when a complaint was made. Only a handful of them have ever been charged and stood trial.

The report states that at least 216,000 children were abused by priests and other clerics. When abuse that happened in Church-run schools, camps and other organisations is included, there were at least 330,000 children abused over that 70 year period.

The majority of the victims were boys, but a lot of girls were abused as well.

The true number of victims is very likely much higher, since many people will have either blanked the memory of the events from their memories or are still too embarrassed to say what happened. And, of course, this investigation only covered the last 70 years in France. There's no doubt that this shit has been going on for literally centuries in every country where there are Catholic churches and priests. I don't know if there's any country which hasn't yet had a Catholic abuse scandal, but if there is, you can be sure it's because the power of the Church and the local culture has prevented any serious investigations.

The Catholic church obviously doesn't have a monopoly on child abuse, but the contrast between the claimed moral authority and superiority of the Church and the way it worked so assiduously to conceal the problem is disgusting.

The choice you offer is like you asking me if I'd prefer to have a wooden skewer jabbed in my left or right eye.

At their very best, religions exist to help those in positions of authority feel better about themselves by providing concrete help to those in physical need. Slightly worse are those where the operators get their jollies by providing bogus certainties about the rules of life to the confused and fantasies about life after death to people with existential fears. At their worst, religions are about twisted, power-hungry, manipulative people exerting control over others for their own gratification while they extract money from them.

Purely from a religious standpoint (And not taking into account the organizations that run them.) I tend to respect Catholicism a bit more.

It's a shame that the organization is corrupt. The current pope seems chill enough though.
