It's for the rest of us. I love the airing of grievances but the pole leaves something to be desired.

I'd never heard of that until now but it sounds much less stressful than christmas!

And Summer Solstice and the Equinoxes! I find them much more significant to celebrate because they're linked to the earth's natural cycles rather than having been made up by humans and then exploited to sell more and more and more stuff.

Actually, I think Ramadan must be seasonal (or originally have been) because it's not on a set date? I'm sure someone will know much more about it than I do.

Hannukah? I don't know much about that one either, but isn't it a festival of lights around the time of the northern hemisphere winter solstice?

Christmas! I'm not religious, but I buy stuff for people anyway. It's nice making people happy sometimes.

I drown my sorrows with Chivas Regal. More often than you'd think. Probably the biggest help in my life.

Christmas, tho every Christmas seems to be a bit sadder as the years go by... You are no longer a kid. All of your grandparents are dead. Your parents are now seniors. You celebrate Christmas with them, look at the joy in their faces, almost tearing up and after they go to bed you drink whiskey alone to drown out the thoughts your parents will die eventually and you will no longer have this. Christmas would be meaningless... It would become nothing more than a day you drink to honor your dead family and say "Rest in peace". Christmas is about family, but when you lose yours what do you celebrate?! Fun concept ain't it...

Thanks for that: I was getting the lunar calendar mixed up with the seasonal one.

I do know that jewish passover and christian easter are still celebrated under the lunar calendar and that christmas is pretty close to winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and a lot of the "trappings" were taken over from that older celebration. Oh and easter too of course: eggs and bunnies have nothing to do with the crucifixion, they're about spring (northern hemisphere) and rebirth
