It's called sleep paralysis. It's fairly common in that most people will experience this a few times in their lives. If it's something that happens frequently to you, it could be a sign of a sleep disorder. If it happens often or bothers you enough, you should talk to your doctor about sleep disorders to make sure that's not the cause.
