What gender would you consider a hermaphrodite or intersex person?

I saw a question about what gender to consider a transsexual. I'm curious what people would consider someone who was born a hermaphrodite or intersex would be?

I was born with external male genitalia (no female genitalia externally) and internal female genitalia (non-functioning ovaries). When I hit puberty I started growing breasts. I look a little more feminine than masculine, but you can kinda see both. I have an adam's apple, the curves and hips of a woman, and a voice that is either high pitched / feminine man voice or deeper / masculine girl voice.

What would you consider someone like me?

A man. 38
A woman. 39
Whatever gender you chose to live as. 375
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    I voted "whatever gender you chose to live as".

    This applies to everyone, even those with a definite male/female sex. Gender is an identity, sex is biological.

      Exactly! This is something that people are really just beginning to understand, at least in the USA (which is all I can speak for.) Sex and gender are so meshed together in our society that any deviation from the expected norm is "queer". But thankfully there are plenty of genderqueer folks like myself that are happy to begin to change perceptions and stereotypes :)

      Exactly...but for some weird reason I have always thought if a girl had a penis it would be really hot...IIN that I think that?

        I prefer the idea of a boy with a vagine but fair enough.

    Why would you concern yourself over what other people "see you as"? The view of gender is, believe it or not, subjective. You simply are who you are.

    From a medical standpoint, you're intersex. From a more philosophical standpoint, you're whatever gender you see yourself as. And to other people, you're whatever gender THEY see you as. What gender do you live as? That would be interesting to include with this question.

    Gender is identity and who you truly are. Sex is the artificial outside.

    A bit out of context but perhaps worth understanding, is that transsexual porn is marketed to heterosexuals. Mostly men obviously. It gets zero play on gay male websites.

    So the demographics demonstrate that up to 20% of the heterosexual population "frequently enjoy" transsexual porn. That's 1 out 5 hetero guys.

    If these viewers were gay, then they would be on gay websites looking at gay men having sex and at feminine gay men sporting boobs. But they are hetro men on hetro websites looking at both chicks & chicks w/dicks.

    What this means, is that you have an object and a response. The response represents a behavior and in the case of a feminine inter-sexed individual with male genitalia, She is accepted as a SHE by at least 20% of the hetero male population.

    If you have a penis you are a man;
    If you have an uterus you are a woman;
    If you have both you are a hemaphrodite;
    If you have none you are just human;

    Souls are neither male or female.

    i think its whatever you identify with the most. Actually, before the invention of modern religion, most societies viewed 3 genders. male, female, and intersexed. it was said to be a blessing if you had an intersexed child, because god was considered to be neither male or female.

    in SOME cultures they actually recognized 5 genders. male, female that appears male, intersexed, male that appears female, and female.

    for the record, for me personally, i think that being intersexed is very sexy. it makes me sad that so many doctors find a need to surgically alter them at birth. i would find having both parts to be very attractive in a partner.

    i'd call you a chick, it probably would depend on seeing your facial features... call it a fetish or bicuriousness getting a best of a straight guy but i want to get with a intersex sooo bad :/

    best of luck to you finding yourself/happy spot/and a mate!

    I can only imagine how tough it can be when you're an intersex person. After you explore life and if you don't find someone that fits perfectly, it might be okay to get the operation done...but not before you figure out which gender you want to be, and not before you figure out which gender you are attracted to. I know this isn't an answer to your question.

    ...Well, what sex are you more comfortable being? I think maybe being a guy would be easier because you already have a dick. But if you think you're more comfortable being a woman, than be a woman.

    The dick is the clue, your a dude, hit the weights to increase your testosterone and find a girl that is a little bi and likes your physique.

        Those 'ovaries' are probably just balls that are still up inside, and I seen plenty of man boobs, as I said, some weightlifting should square you away.

      Apparently this low IQ, easily scared, fearful coward can't read either, go figure.

      IF you were capable of reading and understanding written English words, "loser1212" (aptly named):

      The OP never claimed to think they should be a woman. They didn't even say what gender they think they should be, or live as.

      The OP wasn't born with male parts. They were born with both. This is a medical condition, not some preference or desire to live differently.

      The OP is clearly not a "dude" in that they are male. The are not male, or female. They are intersex. Look it up. This happens, and is a real thing. It has nothing to do with choice. Perhaps they live as a dude, perhaps they live as a chick. You don't know, you big homophobic doofus.

      Try actually reading a question before answering it. If you're capable of that.

            okay, if you are born with both female and male parts, then you would rely on something SIMPLE, like boobs, or facial hair.

            then if you have both, rely on something like which gender you get along with better, feel more comfortable around, etc.
            and i cant do anything about what you think of me, and honestly?
            i couldnt care less either way.

        ...well... then your ovaries ARE functioning. A hermaphrodite is born with both physical parts but the one that is functioning is the one that is supposed to be there, the other is just a bonus lol.

        If you're getting period every month then you're a woman. If you're really that curious then get a blood test, it will show you have XX chromosomes, and you only have two options, male or female. I also have size C breasts, ovaries and a period every month, and I am a woman. It doesn't matter what parts you are born with, what matters is which chromosomes you have and if you are a male, then you will not have periods.

        I was not born with a dick, but I do have masculine features too. It's called being a tomboy.

        • Hmmaybe

          This is incorrect. The code for the penis is on the Y-chromosome. So if you have a penis then you have a Y-chromosome. Your genese are probably XXY, but could be more complex combinations like XXXY, XXYY or XXXXY.
