Dwarfs would be cool. Too bad the closest thing we had to dwarfs were wiped out by modern humans a few thousand years before writing was invented.
I mean just think how much more metal we could extract from the ground if there were entire nations dedicated to expanding and living underground. That being said we could trade agrarian goods for oil and metal resources.
