I think Obama is impressed by the rest of the world, he just doesn't want to bring in the obvious facts that while America is a superpower, it's not a country much history and culture.
In one speech I watched recently I remember him saying "If you leave America, I warn you - you'll lead a tough life." (uproar of clapping) which was quite hurtful, but then again, what can he say? If he had said "If you leave America, I'm certain there are plenty of other great nations.", he wouldn't be the President.
