What does it feel like?

I'm about to go for a extraction for two of my teeth alongside other things and I may have to undergo knockout gas or whatever it's called (it has different names). To put it lightly, I have to be asleep for the whole procedure and... it's my first one.

What is it like when they put you to sleep? Do you dream, is it different from fainting like how is it? (Stories are also welcomed!)

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I got an abscess last year that wouldnt go away, eventually it got to the point where painkillers and kratom didnt work so I finally went to the emergency place and they said I had a bone marrow infection in my jaw from the abscess.

It hurt like a bitch when they pulled it and for like 6 hours after. They tell you not to smoke afterwards but I did anyway and nothing bad happened.

If they're putting you under, you won't feel anything. No dreams. It just goes black & then you wake up. You'll feel super goofy afterwards, so make sure you have someone to drive you home.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I so fucked afterwards. I somewhere in my brain remembered that they won't release you from the hospital after a colonoscopy until you fart, so I got confused, and in my addled state kept telling the nurses that they should stop getting paid to "fart watch" like a bunch of "toot spotters." This is according to my boyfriend at the time. I recall nothing.

  • I don't know about being put under, but I just had four teeth extracted yesterday

It took like 30 minutes for the whole procedure

After the fact there was a lot of bleeding, I've got half a water bottle full of blood and spit

So make sure squeeze the gauze on the gums, not the teeth, to make sure it stops bleeding

I'm on day 2, and the pain is honestly mostly gone, just a little swelling. I'm more scared of a dry socket than anything else

I just ate a cup of ramen, first thing I've eaten since the night before the surgery

They didn't put me under, but I was given like four shots, which made half my face tingly. Some of the shots felt like they cracked my teeth open a little

It felt like he took an ice pick and yanked them out that way. I was beside myself in fear at first, but the last two extractions I was able to lower my heart rate (despite not being allowed to put my hand on my chest 👿) and I kinda like, let go of the teeth and somehow made it really easy for him to pull them

They said they were done and I'm like "whaaa"

It felt like they only took part of the teeth out

Recovery definitely seems to be worse than the procedure, you have to let the blood clot in those holes and you have to slowly build up to eating real food

I'm kinda scared to eat, drink, whatever because I don't want the clots to come loose or for food to get trapped in there as it heals

When I get my right side done I'm definitely eating a steak first lol

It was definitely smart to do it at 9am and be off the rest of the day, maximize day 1 healing time

And definitely sleep as much as you can. I had to take little 2-3 hour naps in-between playing video games, but today I was able to sleep through the first half of the day pretty easily. I think sleeping may help the recovery process, I can't explain it but it seems intuitive

I was anesthetized for an endoscopy+colonoscopy, it hits you like a semi truck, you can’t tell that you conked out or for how long, you just experience waking up. You don’t feel rested after waking up, it’s unconsciousness but not sleep, I felt dreamy and I was shaking. According to my mom, I said weird stuff to the nurse asking me questions.

Depends on what they give you. You'll probably not remember going out and you'll suddenly wake up drowsy.
