-If on a guys profile, I think they could have put that so that girls don't think they're only in it for sex when in actuality they are. It broadens their market to the girls who are looking for a relationship, who they can then hook up with and if they break it off afterwards claim "well I did say I wasn't after anything serious"
-If on a girls profile, it could be just a measured approach to let guys know not to get overly attached, so that the girl can be analytical of her prospects with her suitor. Sorta like saying "I'm testing the waters" I will date you but only if sparks fly will I pursue it.
-It could simply mean they're confused about what they want
-It could be a girl who's just into playing headgames
