Somewhere in the Wind-up Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, there's a fashion designer who has a mute son (his voice got stolen!), she decides to go by the name, Nutmeg, and calls her son, Cinnamon. Those aren't their real names, I remember her not seeing much need in revealing their real names to the protagonist.
