What do you think of valentine's day?

I think it is one of the stupidest holidays. You should treat everybody the same all the time; love them the same everyday. It's like people think that you should love the people you care for more on the holiday.

It's stupid treat everybody you care for with love all the time. 61

It's your birthday!!!! Omigosh, I thumbed up your comment because it's mine, too! If it wasn't my birthday I probably wouldn't like it a lot, though.

It's not really the point of, "It's Valentines day so I'm going to pretend to love you," it's more of a day recognizing Saint Valentine's martyrdom. It's just embellished by corporate candy companies and greeting cards. It's not the legend's fault. Blame the media.

Most holidays are more about consumerism than whatever they're supposedly celebrating. That can be a good or bad thing depending on who you're talking to. At least it provides jobs.

Valentine's Day is a corporate conspiracy designed to fill the festive-product demand gap between New Years and Easter. It plays off of women's primal desires for a man to woo her and provide for her materialistic pleasures. Corporations have used that to market their overpriced boxes of chocolates and peices of jewelry that, in and of themselves, are nothing more than "pretty" to look at and serve no real purpose. Any douchefuck can buy a woman a diamond ring, and any dumb broad can fall for such a primitive ploy disguised as an insinuation of romance.

It is the antithesis of the "equality" that modern women constantly bitch about. Note the aggresive advertising towards MEN to do for their women. But I did not see any commercials encouraging ME to do something for my man for Valentine's Day, like cook him a nice dinner or take him out. Valentine's Day promotes the notion that wooing and courtship in a healthy relationship can only be a one-way, man to woman only street.

Fuck them for creating more consumer demand.

Yes, I'm a woman and they should create a holiday so the women have to do something for the man. lol. Just saying. It would truely be more equal then.

If I had a boyfriend I would just tell him to not buy me anything unless he really wanted to. It's just like any other day.

I don't think there should have to be a holiday for it, I just think that my husband and I should do thing for eachother because we love eachother. I enjoy showing him that I am happy that he is here with me, and he does the same. Doing something nice for my loved one because the media tells me that is it the most socially acceptable to do it on that particular day just doesn't count as much for me.

  • Perfect time to watch the film "My bloody valentine".

In all honesty, I forgot it was Valentines day until someone told me an hour or so ago, so from that you can tell it's not something I care about.

The whole idea is stupid though. The one day of the year where you show love and effection for your partner...Aren't you supposed to do that every day, not just once a day? I think it's probably just a scam for people to purchase things. A day to feed the goverment more money.

    I'm indifferent to the holiday.
However, not so indifferent to an excuse to eat chocolate all day. :)

  • I think it's a useless holiday too honestly. Like you said, you shouldn't have to wait for the 14th of February to plan something special/romantic with your lover. I think it's pretty sad if someone only is willing to do something for their lover for this holiday. Also, it's kinda of a bad day for people who are single and would love nothing more to be loved and love someone.

I think it's a good thing. It doesn't necessarily have to be about your boyfriend/girlfriend you can celebrate it with your family too. It's kinda like Mothers and Fathers Day.

Some people have stressful busy lives and holidays like this can bring you back down to Earth to what really matters.

Also it seems like it's more a holiday for women but I don't agree with that. I buy and do things for my boyfriend on Valentines Day.

Also, if I were single, it's a good reason to go out and drink with friends. :D

I think it's a holiday and it is whatever the individual makes it to be.

I used the run-up to Valentine's as a prod up the arse to ask my girlfriend out after umming-and-arring about it for a long time. In that way, it has it's uses. Otherwise it is a media freakshow like most holidays!

Here's the problem with Valentine's Day:
It is a specific date on the Gregorian Calendar.
The Gregorian Calendar is a strictly solar calendar.
Females go through 'monthly' cycles according to a lunar cycle. (The word 'month' is derived from 'moon', but the Gregorian Calendar's months are longer than the lunar cycle). It is therefor out of sync with the receptivity of females.
When we are in a loving relationship, males usually synchronize with their female partners.

Everyone is loved by someone. You are beautiful and strong inside and remember, don't let anyone think you're not, even yourself.
