It's still an STD regardless. STD's can develop within animals other than humans and cross contamination can occur.
What defines an STD is the possibility of passing it via sexual contact so even if it's not being transferred that way, it is an STD.
Also, if people only had sex with their spouse since the dawn of time, there's a decent chance none of us would be here today. There were several bottlenecks within human history that if polygamy didn't occur, humanity may have died off. It's a sad truth.
