What do you think of the reasons?

Do you think people love each other BECAUSE OF things or INSPITE OF things?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • There can't be an "inspite of" if there isn't a "because of".

  • Hmmm, well....

My mom, I love her, but I can't stand her. I mean, I really, really can't stand her. For a lot of different SERIOUS reasons. I guess I just love her because she's my mom, and in spite of a ton of shit.

My husband, I love him for so many reasons, and he has some quirks I hate but they are more like minor irritations and not full-on major grievances. I wouldn't say I love him in spite of anyhting.

  • OP, here's some examples of how I see it:

    How it should be:
You love a person for 90% of their characteristics and the other 10% doesn't matter--you don't even notice it.

    Your relationship won't last if:
You love 60% of their characteristics and the other 40% drives you bat-shit crazy.

This person is probably just an acquaintance:
You love 45% of their characteristics and hate the other 55%.

  • That is kinda a glass half full/empty kinda thing. Do you think about the things you love about somebody or what you don't but can live with.
