Poumthang is also a common thai name. I think that's how it's spelled, it sounds like poontang.
It's not abnormal, as it's in a language that isn't English. For example, if I translate my name into its original language, and then into Solresol, I get Domifasi; if I translate my brother's name into Solresol, I get Midosi. Either one of those might be considered vulgar in another language.
