What do you think of the japanese attitude towards cars?

In Japan when a car becomes 5 or so years old it becomes worthless. It is considered an old car that needs to be taken off the road. The Japanese consider cars need to be newer than 5 years old to keep up with all the latest safety and pollution improvments.

This is a video of cars that are worthless in Japan an have ended their life there becuase they are more than 5 years old.

It's good to keep up with the latest environmental measures, but it's also bad to waste a perfectly good vehicle. Seems a bit extreme to me.

It may work in japan, but this would not work in other parts of the world, for one, most people would be priced out of vehicle ownership, this would be very problematic, especially in places like the USA, and Australia, where population density is much lower, and more spread out, and mass transit is impractical, expensive, and detrimental to the economy. Plus, there are more people with lower incomes who could not afford a new car, and even most of those who do have a new car do so through trade-in and financing, which, without the used car market, would make it much harder to get the new car. It would also devastate the Auto Parts Market and mechanics, as people would not be getting their cars serviced or buying parts for vehicles.

plus, there is the Gear Heads, who like driving older vehicles, and they would raise a massive fuss if they had to crush their classic cars.

This may work well in Japan, but implementing it in many other places, and especially so in North America, would be devastating

I support it because it is good for the economy but I don't give a shit about Global Warming as I'm a climate denier and it's a scam to levy more taxes.

    • The thing is Japan has the a economy that can support this and I feel that if your country can support it then it is good.
