Insecurity about one's body as a female-specific thing? Interesting.
But isn't a compliment something to reduce your insecurities?
If you're insecure about your, I don't know, legs (also a sexualized area!). And someone comes up to you and says: "God, you should wear longer pants, those legs don't look good." That is offensive, and you've got every right to feel insulted.
But if someone in the same situation says: "God, your legs look so beautiful!" And you still would feel insulted or offended?
I'm not even joking, I genuinely trying to understand.
No, it isn't a gender specific thing. Anyone can be insecure about their bodies. I don't think it should be generalised to one gender, though it generally is.
Legs are not really comparable to bum/genitals/breasts as a sexual area.
Really? You seem to be being difficult on purpose (not in a negative way, just in a trying to get at something that really is self explanatory). You're an intelligent person. Can't you deduce this from your knowledge of societal norms?
No, I can't. I'm not being difficult, I just still don't see a reason to be insulted by a compliment, only because the compliment targets a sexualized area.
And I still don't understand why I'd be delighted to hear such a compliment, and a woman would be insulted or devastated. Devastated! By a compliment! No, it's not self-explaining.
And I'm asking you, because I've read a lot of intelligent posts from you. So please, help me understand.
What do you think is the best thing to compliment in a girl?

Because it focuses on an area deemed by society as a sexual area, mixed with women's general insecurity about their bodies?
