Deepening its hold on the Eastern Mediterranean, especially in Syria has been an interest of Russia for
centuries. And obviously backing Bashar Al- Assad is the best way to do it. Russia will do whatever it takes...and with their military in Syria they can play their games fairly easily.
Indeed, but historically this should panic America and Western Europe. Regardless at this point there isn't much we can do about it outside of arming volatile rebel groups. Obviously we're not going to declare war on Russia unless they invade Poland or something
Technically there's little America can do either way. Declaration of war on Russia will kick start WW3, now that's something no one wants...But I don't think Russia will make a move on Poland anytime soon.
Thankfully, I agree, but Russia has certainly gotten more aggressive as of late. Putin knows just how far he can take things without going too far so there's that. Realistically our biggest concern is a Cold War 2.0, if it hasn't already commenced
Judging from the way he manipulated the situation so far, I'm not entirely sure what he has in mind. If he's smart he won't engage in war just like that, that way he'll lose way more than what he wishes to obtain.
What do you think about Russia propping up Al-Assad

Yes, plus the Middle East is a sectarian can of worms so who knows if this will blow up in his face

I wouldn't worry they know just when to pull back.
