What do you think about Greta and Global warming?

  • Global warming is a problem and we should not ignore it, but banning air travel, a CO2 tax for citizens and banning cars is not gonna magically fix the world. No squirrels and happy bunnies are gonna dance on the EU parliament building gaily as the last turbocharged car is scrapped and the world is saved from the hellspawn that is the internal combustion engine...

Greta Thunberg and her followers fail to understand that the main problem are coal power plants, commercial vehicles, bad city planning and dirty businesses.

I gotta pass an emissions test for my car every year, but cities don't have to pass any tests for their buses that run 24/7? Where's the logic in that?! It's idiocy at it's finest.
Making me sell my V8 diesel Mercedes is not gonna save the world. Pushing electric cars on me that can't do over 300km on a single charge isn't helping either. But banning coal is a step in the right direction!

She tours the world on a Rothschild yacht, goofing off with world leaders and talks down to the rest of us??? That's not how you solve problems.
This is why I hate her. It's also why I have a "Fuck you Greta" sticker between the exhausts of my E-class.

    • Emissions tests in the US are a scam. The shop owner has to finance the computer, makes no money off the inspections themselves, and by the time its paid off they switch to another system. The only incentive for a shop to do them is to try and upsell you extra stuff.

Electric cars are going to be a huge problem because there's no way to recycle the batteries in place anywhere. A prius gets the same gas mileage as a 1982 VW diesel.

      • You also have to remember that electric cars need to get their electricity from somewhere else. Where would most electric car owners get their electricity? Those coal power plants that megadriver mentioned. It's also far more to energy efficient to use a combustion engine over an electric one, due to the energy loss when charging the battery.

        • Steam engines were also really efficient and went faster than gas cars of the time. If you imagine the last 100 years they spent fine-tuning combustion engines were also used to improve steam engine design, We'd have some pretty neat steam powered cars.

Honestly I always say the answer to auto pollution would be to shut down all the car factories and just keep repairing the cars that already exist. If you work on a new car today you see how really disposable they're designed to be. Driving around in an old boat lincoln with a carburetor pollutes way less than an automotive factory, you gotta think paint runoff into the water supply too. I remember some figure from a while back said buying and driving a prius pollutes way more than just continuing to drive an old car for another 10 years.

          • steam is alive and well its just produced and consumed on humungous scales that most people dont see

theres no better way to transmit gigawatt scales of thermal (and therefore rotational kinetic) energy short to medium distances

            • Always wondered why diesel was used for trains instead of steam. Always figured it was a gas industry scam.

              • diesel is safer cheaper easier to operate way less maintenance and more fuel efficient

only advantage (in railroad anyway) that steam has is cool factor and back in the day waaaay more power but modern diesel electrics with ac frequency drive trounce any amount of tractive force a steam rig can make

although its perfect for railroad diesel is ony efficient up to a certain scale and then theres lots of logistical issues where steam & gas turbine power are more feasible

believe me this kinda shit is my bread & butter no scams just good progress
