What do you think about greta and global warming?

I've been wondering, what do you think about Greta Thunberg and global warming, or environmental changes in general?
I believe, that it's the real problem and I'm kinda proud, what she achieved in her age already.

Global warming is a massive issue and humans do need to make changes, yes.

However, Greta Thunberg has been used and abused for a political agenda. She was just a child when all of this started and she was thrust into a high pressure super hero role. I couldn't believe how many people supported it. It is totally wrong to do that to a child. I hope the poor girl hasn't suffered too much damage from this.

God forbid. It must be really hard on her having common sense. Did she really have to have it forced on her? The things she understands are the same things anyone with an internet connection who hasn't been flinging shit for the last 10 years knows. Maybe she just doesn't want to grow up into the fucked up world waiting on her and she's angry, like she should be. This is a real problem.

Global warming is a problem and we should not ignore it, but banning air travel, a CO2 tax for citizens and banning cars is not gonna magically fix the world. No squirrels and happy bunnies are gonna dance on the EU parliament building gaily as the last turbocharged car is scrapped and the world is saved from the hellspawn that is the internal combustion engine...

Greta Thunberg and her followers fail to understand that the main problem are coal power plants, commercial vehicles, bad city planning and dirty businesses.

I gotta pass an emissions test for my car every year, but cities don't have to pass any tests for their buses that run 24/7? Where's the logic in that?! It's idiocy at it's finest.
Making me sell my V8 diesel Mercedes is not gonna save the world. Pushing electric cars on me that can't do over 300km on a single charge isn't helping either. But banning coal is a step in the right direction!

She tours the world on a Rothschild yacht, goofing off with world leaders and talks down to the rest of us??? That's not how you solve problems.
This is why I hate her. It's also why I have a "Fuck you Greta" sticker between the exhausts of my E-class.

Emissions tests in the US are a scam. The shop owner has to finance the computer, makes no money off the inspections themselves, and by the time its paid off they switch to another system. The only incentive for a shop to do them is to try and upsell you extra stuff.

Electric cars are going to be a huge problem because there's no way to recycle the batteries in place anywhere. A prius gets the same gas mileage as a 1982 VW diesel.

You also have to remember that electric cars need to get their electricity from somewhere else. Where would most electric car owners get their electricity? Those coal power plants that megadriver mentioned. It's also far more to energy efficient to use a combustion engine over an electric one, due to the energy loss when charging the battery.

Steam engines were also really efficient and went faster than gas cars of the time. If you imagine the last 100 years they spent fine-tuning combustion engines were also used to improve steam engine design, We'd have some pretty neat steam powered cars.

Honestly I always say the answer to auto pollution would be to shut down all the car factories and just keep repairing the cars that already exist. If you work on a new car today you see how really disposable they're designed to be. Driving around in an old boat lincoln with a carburetor pollutes way less than an automotive factory, you gotta think paint runoff into the water supply too. I remember some figure from a while back said buying and driving a prius pollutes way more than just continuing to drive an old car for another 10 years.

steam is alive and well its just produced and consumed on humungous scales that most people dont see

theres no better way to transmit gigawatt scales of thermal (and therefore rotational kinetic) energy short to medium distances

Always wondered why diesel was used for trains instead of steam. Always figured it was a gas industry scam.

I think she believes shes doing good but is too young to remember all the predictions that didn't come true. She is mislead. Climate change has been happening forever even before humans. The only question is whether or not humans are speeding up the process and if so by how much.

I think global warming is serious, but with the amount of attention it gets, it's an issue that will be sorted. I don't like the ridiculous fear mongering shit like "we only have 12 years left", and I don't like that people clap shit between their hand for some girl with no expertise on the subject and who does nothing other than get people to go "aww".

That's actually not how it works. No one is claiming she's an expert. What's scary is that she's not. What's scary is that this is an issue so evident that little girls are capable of understanding it while right wingers treat it like black magic.

Global warming is serious but not to the degree we should murder our own economy while the 2nd and 3rd world keep polluting.

Fucking over the economy for your precious ideal for making the world green is stupid. And will probably be why millenials will be taken up as the next boomers because they screwed the gen Z and the next gen.

Yeah we can probably just pretend it's not an issue because dealing with it is inconvenient.

What did the boomers do? From what I know, they just continued on with what the previous generations were doing.

I feel as though the problem would solve itself if people just gave it a bit of time. Eventually, the coal plants would be replaced by nuclear ones, and then people could start cleanly using electric cars. If you really wanted to make a change when it comes to climate change, you would invest in nuclear power; even if the end goal was to switch to one of the (almost) entirely wasteless methods of creating electricity.

99% of IIN users: Global warming is obviously a real and serious issue, but actually do something about it? Let's not go crazy here. We can probably just ignore this planet-threatening issue as dealing with it seems kind of inconvenient.

I think that global warming is not a problem but a blessing. The only problem is that it’s barely noticeable, I'd like it to be more intensive and the climate where I live to become tropical. I hate cold weather and living in a coastal city, I enjoy the beach very much. I'd like if it never snows here ever again.
Honestly, I think Greta and her kind are fuckin idiots. It would make some sense if it was Arabs from the deserts concerned it will become too hot for them.. But ironically, it's Northerners from Scandinavia and Canada who benefit the most of it. Fuckin masochists

global warming is a farce! if you look at history and environment changes over the last few centuries, you will find this is not the first time the temp has risen world wide and the summers have gotten hotter. Its a cycle and it will change back, We have had several ice ages over the last few thousand years and we will have another one again... instead of always believing what the government and others say, look things up for your self and use some intelligence that God has given you.
