On a serious note, I don't refer to female gamers as "girlgamers". They're just gamers.
I do refer to the stereotype of a female gamer as a "gurl gamer", though. You know, the ones who lick their controllers and use gaming for sex appeal. They can still be gamers and do that but they're just...Ugh. Most aren't like that though.

Oh God, yeah. I know those types. I see it all the time on Halo. Whenever me and my gaming bud sees that we just start taking the piss. Ofcourse we're on party chat or Skype so it's not directly to them because I'm not one for trash talking on video games or we switch our tags to "boy" or any variation to signify we're male.
It's just like, why do you have to broadcast your gender? They're honestly just douches trying to gain attention. Aha.

I dont get your poll. So if a girl is up till 1 in a morning in her own house playing video games and the next morning goes to school and no one knows she was gaming shes an attention whore? Does that mean that when guys do this they are attention whores? That is crap.

It's like the difference between the labels "gay" and "homosexual". Synonym labels can have different social meaning/connotations.
A female gamer is a female who happens to play and enjoy video games.
A 'girl gamer' broadcasts their gender to the other gamers online that play their game in seek of attention from them and likes this attention more than the game itself.Something can be described as "gay" which although is homophobic and offensive to the gay community, is conventional somehow and it doesn't usually have intentions to offend gays. If something is described as homosexual then there is obviously an intention of offending the gays and to discriminate them. Get my drift?

Gay and homosexual are the same thing. However Gay is probably preferred to saying "Homo". Homosexual is the TEXTBOOK term, while Gay and Straight are slang. the technical terms for GAY and STRAIGHT are Homosexual and Heterosexual. Also using GAY as a derogatory term does not change the meaning of gay. Its saying that Gay people are gross so they associate gross/lame things with GAYS. Why you are not suppose to use the term GAY to mean something is lame/stupid/gross. They in fact made a commercial for this that you should watch. I actually tried to make my last post objective, not a personal opinion. I was trying to say how it is convention to use "gay" as a loose derogatory word. I personally don't use it but I see so many others do, hence convention. My point is that while things have the same "text book" meaning (female gamers and gamer girls), these differences in label can have different social implications.

No offence to all those "Gamers4Life" type of girls, but TBH, every single "gamergirl" I've ever seen has been either: an incredible pro, but a batshitugly and overweight one; Or a hottie but also a real n00b.
