Well, if it’s the sandwich itself, it’s a burger.
If I want to specify the burger has cheese, it’s a cheeseburger
If I want to specify the burger doesn’t have cheese, it’s a hamburger
If I want to refer to the meat portion of the burger, it’s a patty
If I want to refer to a cooked patty intended to be eaten outside a sandwich, it’s Salisbury steak
If I want to refer to the raw meat used to make a patty, it’s hamburg
I’d only call a burger a sandwich if I’m trying to stress that I’m not talking specifically about a patty or the raw meat or a Salisbury steak, but a full burger
“steamed hams” is not in my vocabulary
What do you refer burgers as?
