What do you personally think of Pluto being demoted?

  • I still consider it a planet, and I don't care what any crackpot Astronomer says. (Not that I'm that normal myself!)

My biggest argument as to Pluto being a planet, is that if the Earth were just as far or just as small in size as Pluto (but still the only life-bearing planet in the Milkyway), nobody on Earth would be lobbying for the Earth to be delisted as a planet.

Another problem with planet delisting, is that it opens up the possibility of delisting other planets. Such as, why not get rid of Jupiter and Saturn? They're gas giants. Or maybe we can delist everything beyond the Earth? After all, everything else is outside of the 100 million mile radius of the sun.

A funny thing came up with my dad one time when I mentioned to him that the elements uranium, neptunium, and plutonium were named after the three outermost planets. Then my dad went on to ask me "if Pluto isn't a planet anymore, does this mean plutonium isn't an element anymore"?
