What do you personally think of pluto being demoted?

Regardless of scientific explanation, what do you personally think of Pluto being demoted as being a planet?

I think it's impossible to demote Pluto, always was a planet and stays. 33
I think science has lost credibility since demoting Pluto. 10
I agree. Demoted. 11
I agree, but I think it should be explained better to everyone. 13
I'm out of school, explain to me how this is possible!! I disagree!! 5
I think space exploration should stop, what more do we need to know? 1
Y learn some science as fact if it's proven wrong a few years later? 5

  • I'll always consider it a planet, just for old times sake.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is the Lady Gaga of astrophysicists. He's the bastard that demoted Pluto to his new category "Plutoids". He's no authority, and his decision means nothing. Pluto is a planet and it always will be.

He is an authority on the subject and his description of Pluto and why it is technically not a planet is accurate.

In some definitions it's still a planet, just a "dwarf" planet. Personally, I think it's a kick in the studs for Clyde Tombaugh's family.

Although being completely dispassionate about it, as soon as Planet X got a name and we realised both the existence of the Kuiper Belt and that Pluto wasn't even the biggest thing in it (Eris is bigger), Pluto's days were numbered.

I still consider it a planet. The same way I view the sun and moon as "planets". It doesn't fit the scientific definition of planet but I grade on a curve.

You know I do not see why it was considered a planet in the first place. If it really did not qualify wouldn't they have figured it out sooner? However I do not think people who do not realize this are necessarily stupid. They just have outdated information. However people will judge harshly for these type of things. Outdated does not equal idiocy.

It's a rock and was a disgrace as a planet. It now live lives in shame and exile.

i see it as a planet. i mean, after all, aren't they all just whopping big sattelites to the sun? what's the difference between that and a honking great astaroid?

I still consider it a planet, and I don't care what any crackpot Astronomer says. (Not that I'm that normal myself!)

My biggest argument as to Pluto being a planet, is that if the Earth were just as far or just as small in size as Pluto (but still the only life-bearing planet in the Milkyway), nobody on Earth would be lobbying for the Earth to be delisted as a planet.

Another problem with planet delisting, is that it opens up the possibility of delisting other planets. Such as, why not get rid of Jupiter and Saturn? They're gas giants. Or maybe we can delist everything beyond the Earth? After all, everything else is outside of the 100 million mile radius of the sun.

A funny thing came up with my dad one time when I mentioned to him that the elements uranium, neptunium, and plutonium were named after the three outermost planets. Then my dad went on to ask me "if Pluto isn't a planet anymore, does this mean plutonium isn't an element anymore"?

The big fricken rock is not big enough to be a planet?!?!?!?! FTW!?!?!? Sincerely who cares, the damned science geeks need to develope a hobby or get into a porn instead of screwing around and "demoting" planets.
