No it is more of a gourd like squash. When you eat it raw it mostly tastes like squash, kind of a Sweet, earthy taste. It's a love it or hate it kind of food. Unless they are talking about pumpkin pie, which contains pumpkin but tastes nothing like pumpkin really.

Ahh, I've eaten squash. It's one of those things that's best when you don't know you're eating it (like liquidised in a soup).
