I hate writing papers more, because are more rules involved- you need to make sure your in-text references and reference list are perfect, that you properly format your paper to the appropriate referencing style, that you don't accidentally plagiarise, etc. Plus, it can sometimes be difficult and extremely boring to find really good peer-reviewed studies that are relevant to your research topic.
With exams, usually the only things you need to do are study the textbook and class notes. Plus, the marking standards tend to be lower because markers know how hard it is to write a really good essay or whatever in a short amount of time.
What do you hate more? Term papers or exams?
