What do you dislike most about being human?

sort of like "human conditions" as they call them

I could give a lengthy list but if I had to give my number one it'd be ...

Our inability to deal with an extreme variety of temperature and weather.

I mean we are sensitive AF to that and it honestly blows. You wanna know why i think it sucks so much? , because well we need shelter to be comfortable. I cant tell you how many times Im out in the wilderness whether the city scape or the deep forest and I really wish i could just peacefully sleep with the wild weather all night feeling comfortable.

I mean how cool would that be? think of how much more adventure you could have if you didn't always have to find a shelter? Just walking up snowy mountains in shorts feeling as comfortable as ever days later in the hot 110 degree F sun all while feeling as comfortable as you feel now sitting your temperate 68-72 indoor climate.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

How overly complicated we make everything nowadays. I'm talking about jobs, shitty school system, governments/politics being a mess, the concept of money. I wish we would have just stuck to staying in small tribes and our only job was to survive. That's much simpler (though harder) than having to go through a bunch of useless schooling and getting a job that sucks. Yea, we wouldn't have the technological or medical advancements we have today but I'm willing to sacrifice all that to simply be able to be free from all this shit. Also I don't think it'd be all sunshine and happy, there's plenty of issues with it too, but I'd just rather deal with them than current ones.

No, that's how it's spelt in Australia where I live, as in the uk. You obviously assume that the spelling used in the usa without the central e, is the only accurate spelling, as in "losing you" instead of "losing your".

Probably both spellings are acceptable now, but I'm old fashioned about spelling, grammar and punctuation (especially apostrophe's in the wrong place's): about the only things I AM old fashioned about, now I come to think of it.

I don't care if usa dwellers leave the e out of ageing, but I found it funny that I was assumed to be losing my literacy because of age: ageist as well as ignorant all in one brief post!

It's "normal" for Americans to bastardise the English language then seem clueless about why everyone doesn't spell as they spell. It's not only spelling it's everything. Many on this website even seem to presume that everyone is American. Do they even know that they aren't the centre of the universe? I guess when the president is a delusional narcissist he's only a reflection of the people.

All true, except you're going along with the usa being the centre of the universe: the USA is NOT AMERICA! There are a number of other American countries, central, northern and southern, which is why I use clumsy terms like "citizens of the usa" rather than americans.

Actually, I don't give a stuff if they leave the e out of ageing and similar words, but I did have to respond to someone criticizing me not leaving it out, especially on ageist (not agist) grounds.

  • Human society is far more complicated and judgmental than animal societies, and that sucks.

For example, I used to have a hen who I called "burn victim", because the skin on her face was damaged by scratching. She was perfectly healthy, however, and therefore lived a perfectly normal life. The other chickens didn't notice a thing wrong with her.

If a human's appearance is messed up, even if they're perfectly healthy, they have to deal with a lot of judgement and bullshit from other humans, wasting a bunch of money to fix something that practically speaking doesn't need fixing, and social anxiety.

Another thing is that humans have a tendency to never be satisfied, and our active, advanced brains are more prone to certain mental illnesses.

Mental illnesses are the price we pay for having advanced brains. Other animals do not suffer from as many mental illnesses as we do- the simple nature of their brains give them an edge over us in this aspect.

Death is constant for everything, humans are built pretty well considering we use op tools and clothing to override our lack of physical attributes. We live as long as we are needed so 80 years is a good cut off logistically speaking. Humans are all around a great class to play as.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • JellyBeanBandit

Do you mean in comparison to animals? Because if so then a lot of the worst things about being human are also present in animals anyway (illness, dying, etc.). So then the only things that would be left would be things like greed, violence, etc. But then realistically if any other animal species had become as intelligent as us, then there's really no guarantee that they wouldn't be just as greedy and violent as we are. A certain amount of greed and violence are necessary for most animals to survive in the wild, so it's hard to escape that being bred into us unfortunately.

Or do you mean in general, even if other animals have these bad qualities too? Cos if so then I'd just have to say death more so than anything really. Death is the ultimate downer.

To be fair being as intelligent and socially adept as humans are war is inevidable when you get to a certain population. Humans used to not wholesale slaughter eachother when we were few on the planet but as soon a we become abundant theres resources that another colony has that we lack. Breaking it down like that, nearly every single war is because of resources.

I do not see myself as human; I simply exist. Fundamentally I am nothing but a clump of atoms with consciousness and that is what differentiates me. If I had the will and ability, I could manipulate my perspective of reality creating the perfect universe. Of course, our brain is limited and our sensory world exists for a reason however, it is deeply flawed and only a masochist would desire to stay in it.

Yet you remain as a human no matter what you do theres always a constant of what you were born as. It's in your DNA. Technically the universe is already perfect, it has rules that are closely followed. You believing that is flawed is the byproduct of human pessimistic attitude towards things we can not perceive such at relativity beyond self.

Indecisiveness. I wish I could just decide on something and stick with it to completion without constantly deliberating. So many choices, which one is the best? I guess I better do essentially nothing for the next so-and-so many days while I try to find an answer, while second-guessing my previous decision because it probably wasn't the best one.

Same thing with society in general. We can never decide on just one thing, everyone has a different idea of what's the best or the worst, so we end up just stagnating or going with an option that less than half of people wanted because there was no real majority opinion. It's like a pie cut in 4 pieces. Each slice has their own idea of what's right and only one slice can have their opinion implemented, so no matter what you do you can only please 25% of the pie, or go with some frankenstein option that leaves maybe 33% happy and everyone else in the dirt.

It would be nice if we, as humans, could just agree on something. It doesn't have to be everything, we don't need to be a bunch of mindless automatons blissed out in a hive mind talking about how great we are without our individuality. Just some singular goal that we could all get behind in the grand scheme of things, and then push forward with without everyone constantly second-guessing the idea. Like space travel or flying houses or something.

Pain is a VERY important sense to have. Because it's your body telling you, you are taking damage.

When playing a video game because you cant feel the characters pain you rely on a health gauge so you dont keep doing something that causes damage to yourself.

Yeah that is one way to look at it it's still depressing aside from the physical aspect of pain tolerance and I have a high tolarance there is only so much I can take.

Death is something I just really fear because I'm a seeker of knowledge I love to learn new things and when one grows old their minds tend to slow down and when your gone there is nothing.

I'm also not really for the idea of a afterlife for many reasons.
