What do you call the little pictures for each user on a website?

Ive heard them be called avatars, but I call them profile pictures.

That's an avatar. I used to do CSS coding for websites such as forums (similar to this site) and those images were called avatars. Unless you're referring to a profile of someone in which case, it would be a profile picture like the other person wrote.

Icon if it's small and nondescript/abstract, avatar if it represents the user, on something like this site i would say profile pic
