So do the bums and hobos steal them over there too? Does the name change to something besides 'trolley' if a bum is in posession of it? I'm being totally serious.
So, what do they kep their stuff in? That's what they do here, put it in a cart so it's mobile. Plus it allows for easier movement of thier cans/bottles/recyclables.

Most people call it a shopping trolley or just a 'trolley' in Australia too.

Not really, it's usually drunk teenagers stealing and abandoning them.
We don't say "bums" over here to refer to homeless people either - a bum is another word for butt or arse. We say hobo or tramp.
