Everyone over there calls it that? Here in the US, you never know. There's no standard.
The stores pretty much all call them 'carts'. There's the 'cart corral' in the parking lot, the employees who have to go bring the carts back in are called 'cart wranglers', the signs all say 'return carts here'....but people just call them all kinds of random things. I find it wierd. I like 'cart'. I could never call it a buggy or wagon, those one's really irk me.

As far as I know, everyone here calls them trolleys. I've never heard anyone refer to them as anything else.

A trolley is a street car in the US. Mostly San Fransisco.
