Now that I think about it I might in the situation be too awkward to handle it that way, and just remain silent. But theoretically, yes, I think that's the least awkward way to handle it (because if you do something to mask the sound or don't do anything to pretend you didn't hear it, it's just going to create a REALLY uncomfortable silence)
At least when youre old you'll have something quirky and unique to remember from your first date ^^
