Only cut back I've made is spending less money every month on shit I don't need. And I quit smoking pot. Which I was getting for free I just need to do something else with my time instead of sitting on a couch trimming pot buds.
Hmm after reading these comments, I have it perty Damn good!!

I went into survival mode and consider myself on Combat rations. No Take-out food/coffee, no movies at the cinemas (Streaming is best), No truck (Tabs,Insurance, Gas & maintenance all gone) and use Public Transportation, meal portions cut down to 1/2 what I usually ate (breakfast and dinner are larger with a light snack for lunch, no Brand new clothes, No smoking, drinking or clubbing, credit/debit cards down to 1 only to eliminate monthly fees. Heavy duty leather work boots to eliminate shoe cost (so far lasted 2.5 years, and finally no quick snacks from Ma and Pa stores. Boring Life? Maybe, but I'm economically comfortable; I forgot, I use throw away cell phones and got rid of the land line.

    • Which 'b@stard over here' are you talking about, the one that you'd hang on the bus?

You didn't really let your dog die did you - why didn't you give it away?

Actually... nothing. I don't spend too much anyway. But I need sport supplements and good food in high quantities anyway, so if shit gets bad I'll start selling crap I don't need or pick another gym shift.

With the exception of cheaper food brands, my family has been doing all of the available options for as long as I can remember. Never cheap out on food.

Personally I was always a saver although I understand that Americans live off credit cards. So, I'm not aware of the recession as my mortgage, car, etc is paid off.

I live by the philosophy, 'If you can't afford it, you don't need it.'

I rarely buy anything brand new because ebay will have someone who hasn't used one.

My mum hides the tins of cheaper veg behind the usual branded ones, so that my brothers don't know what they are eating - or they'd refuse :o)

I don't feel as if I've given up much. I don't use public transit because it's cheaper, but because it makes more sense. And who wants the stress of driving if it can be avoided. I am going to move into a cheaper place, not because it's cheaper, but because it will give me more opportunity to produce my needs. I don't need new clothes, I need to learn how to make my own. I don't need to eat out, I need to tend to my garden better. I don't need the pub, I need to throw more parties. It's all perspective. Simplifying your life should be simple.

I know the current mainstream lifestyle is not sustainable and I choose not to feed into it. I am lucky to live where I do as we've been protected for the most part. But we know it won't last forever. We need to choose to make these changes before it is forced upon us in a most unpleasant manner. But we also need to help our fellow man in adapting if we want to weather the storm. If you can't work with your neighbors and community to build a better life, what kind of life are you trying to build?

I have cut back on everything and am still finding it difficult. The cuts have been harsh in my sector and there are fresh cuts to be implemented. Lots of us have lost our jobs and we know that lots more will do so. I have no real support structure and my savings have been spent in staying alive. If I lose my job, I am sunk.

I don't want to leave my country behind, but I'm seriously considering emigration while I still can.

I share my bed with 8 relatives, I have to steal coal for the fire. I send my little brother out to cut purses, while my little sister takes the baby and begs on street corners. Oh sorry.....I had a little time warp then, possibly back to when there was a real recession?

Yes things are a little harder for some people, but really a positive attitude, common sense and hard work can get you through most of what is going on at the moment.
