After Prohibition was lifted on December 5th 1933, the repeal of the 18th Amendment of the Constitution (with the 21st Amendment) failed to fully spell out that home brewing was allowed. It wasn't until Jimmy Carter got into office and obviously as a nod to his brother Billy Carter, (remember Billy Beer?) did the full repeal take effect. An amendment was added which once again lawfully allowed home-brewing to restart. It was in the following years that people brewing in their kitchens, fed up with the Czech and Bohemia style Pilsner and Lager beers that are widely and commercially available, honed their recipes and decided to brew their own beer and sell it. Many Homebrewing supply stores have operated since before then though.
