Hmm... I didn't vote because my view doesn't fall into the two options.
I think you have made your mother more worried as you (and your other brother as well?) refused to tell her the story about your elder brother. Mom will always have an instinct to protect her children even when there is nothing she can do about it, but at least she would want to know what her babies are going through!
Also, in my opinion, if the issue was that private then you and your brother shouldn't even mention it. So, there was no reason why your mother couldn't share it as a family member.
However, I like how you said at the end that you will be speaking to her about your feelings. Communication is always good.
