I've been Roman Catholic all my life, and have zero intention of ever changing, but I do like to read about Buddhism, Wicca and certain New Age things. I think it's normal to study about various religions and philosophies.
How is it depressing and lonely? Personally, I find it fascinating that almost every religious figure has something in common, yet details vary by culture. It's almost like the world has different pieces to a puzzle we've long forgotten about.

You can commit to a religion while still learning about others...they're not mutually exclusive.

True, but I personally choose not to commit to any.

This is really the only sensible thing to think, but it's so depressing and lonely which is why I think people go for religion.

True but I don't think we will ever find the answer, which is depressing.

Awh, don't be depressed, because there are people out there trying to figure it out; hopefully they find the answer someday.

They won't figure out eternity, how the universe was created or what sentience is.
None of those things except maybe the latter, are logically possible.
We live in a giant enigma.
Something can be fascinating and depressing at the same time.
