That sounds awesome, really. I have cruise control in my car (not radar I think) and I have never used it - I don't even know how or even why I would use it! Am I missing out on anything???

I think you had a Honda Fit, right? If yours is a high spec one, you have it. Do you have a button on your steering wheel that says "CRUISE"? If you do, you have cruise control.
You use it for long highway driving. You set a speed, in my case 10-20kmh over the limit and the car goes at that speed and you even save fuel like this. Cause if you manually operate the throttle, your speed is never really 100 percent constant. You don't stare at stare at your speedometer all the time... You look at other cars, nature, signs, you think about stuff, talk to passengers and you speed changes slightly. You fluctuate around the speed limit, going 10kmh over, or 10 under.
Radar cruise control can slow you down automatically if there is a car in front of you, going slower than you. But some turn off, if you go below 30kmh and you must reset them...
Premium car makers like Mercedes, BMW and Audi go one step further. With their radar cruise control systems, your car can come to a full stop, should the car in front of you stop... like in a traffic jam. And once the car in front moves a set distance, your car recognizes there is no car in the way and will try to get back to whatever speed you set it at, while keeping a safe distance from the car in front.
It's a fantastic feature for stop and go traffic.
In essence cruise control saves you money on long journeys by keeping a constant speed. I've done the test... 830km drive with and without cruise control. Without cruise control, my fuel consumption was at 5.4l/100km at 130-140kmh and 5.0l/100km at a set 135kmh. That's a saving of roughly 4 liters of fuel and 8 Euro. I know it doesn't sound like much, but in the long run, say 50000km of highway driving, saves you 2 grand on fuel (more, or less, depending on your car). Highway driving is most efficient at a constant speed. Naturally, cruise control, like any other car aid, only helps you if you drive smart.
As for gear shifting. I only like a manual on a fun, quirky weekend car you take out on a nice road. Then manual makes sense and is an absolute treat to drive. But for everyday driving - nope.

2 nights ago I dreamt I bought a yellow camaro for 52k without test-driving it and found out the brakes were faulty when I reached a mall after driving on a steep street. Kinda fun...
