What are we fight for ?

Is it normal to wonder what we are fighting for in Iraq and Afghanistan? I mean if we are fighting for a good reason like freeing poor people in Iraq and Afghanistan from oppression. Then I understand and support the war. But if we are fight for oil, money or power then I oppose the war. The reason I ask this is because I'm thinking about joining the Marines. However, a Marine or army soldier isn't supposed to ask questions he is simply supposed to have an empty head and fight and die without even knowing why because his government tells him to? I don't like this because I need to know I'm fighting for a good cause if I am gonna kill or die over it.

If you join the Military you are at disposal of the Government in power. Not the concept of protection or right or other subject. You are an extension of political will. Remember this! You are not part of the reason why, you are an extension of power. If you cannot comprehend this structure go study or start your life with some other thing and walk away from the army!!

I,m a soldier, and that means. I,m both defendant and judge. I am standing on two ends of fire. Bending over the steep turns, over taking life or death. I'm running to fight the shadow of this lie.

I think it can be a combination of both. Obviously there are people who are gaining power and money from the conflict and military presence. However, there are certainly some oppressed people in those countries who have benefited from our presence. Of course, there are plenty of other oppressed people in countries around the globe, so I feel our main reason for our presence in these countries is the former. Soldiers are supposed to follow orders and be unquestioning, that is their duty.

I'm with you pal. I know why we went over in the first place. It was a knee jerk reaction to 9/11. Fighting terrorism with a military is like fighting water with a sword. There are better ways to do it. What I'm confused about is why we are STILL doing over there.

They train terrorist and ship them to Iraq so at the end of the day Americans are wasting their time out there. Oh but wait, you can't fight Saudis because they provide America with oil... So lose/ lose situation there

  • Dont fight for a country fight for the world. I see myself as a soldier of the world not a soldier of war.

What does anyone fight for? Greed, power, control, fear... all those great human ideals.

    I'm with you.
No one should be in that country. The presence of other countries' soldiers in there is humiliating, and problematic for the country.
I understand the 'fight for your country' thought, but that doesn't mean going out and finding trouble that never cared about you to begin with. You would have a whole lot more soldiers alive and no 9/11had you stuck to your own soil...
